I purchased this application because I trusted Norton and wanted to protect my data. I didn't buy it so that Norton could randomly delete my data based on stupid and lazy reasoning. I've had numerous known good files deleted based on this stupid WS.Reputation.1 justification. Most are from known and trusted sources. Some are files that have been backed up on one drive or another for up to a decade, only to just, all of a sudden, be marked as bad by Norton. A 13 year-old patch file for the game Diablo, that was downloaded from the publishers site, that I've used at least ten times over 13 years with no ill affects, is not likely to be a virus, yet Norton flagged it and deleted it.

My old resume file is not likely to be encoded with macro viruses, yet Norton deleted it because so few people have reported on it. That's a real reason?! If only a few, or in this case one, uses a file, that means it's a virus, causes a low reputation score and the file is deleted?!

So, pretty much every file that I have ever created on my computer and backed up is at risk? To me, this is starting to sound like virus behaior. I am starting to think that possibly Norton Security is the virus and I paid for it and freely installed it on all of my systems. As things stand now, I am afraid to connect any of my backup media and I do not trust Norton Security for anything. I have my files backed up, but I do not have them backed up on twelve redundant systems. Eventually, Norton Security is going to delete something that I do no have a way of recovering.

If it was a current patch and for example thousands of Norton users had it on their systems it would probably rank higher or not be detected at all.

As for the resume file I have no idea why it was removed. Was the resume done with MS Office or something else? Make sure your settings are default under Settings >Antivirus for all sections. Also you can exclude your external drive by going to Settings >Antivirus >Exclusion / Low Risks next click [+] configure beside 'Items to exclude from scans' and 'Items to exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and download intelligence detection' and add your drive to each. (Only do this if you are absolutely certain the file is safe) Some users will recommend against this. You can only exclude your external drive once it's connected to your system.

You should have enough time to exclude it before Norton has any chance to scan it. Than k you for the advice. I will certainly heed it. On the window where it says Removed you might see options if you click that you can Exclude the program with one click. For example I went into my History and clicked on a risk with High severity that is listed. Then near the top it says Options under Recommended Action.
